TECAR Therapy & Injury Treatment

What is TECAR Therapy?

TECAR stands for Transfer of Energy – Capacitive and Resistive, and it’s a form of radiofrequency electrotherapy that uses electromagnetic energy to stimulate natural healing processes from the internal body.

Unlike surface-level treatments such as TENS or ultrasound, TECAR delivers controlled high-frequency energy that activates both superficial and deep tissues through thermal and bio-stimulating effects. This makes it highly effective in accelerating recovery, reducing inflammation and pain, and improving circulation, without discomfort or downtime.

The Origins of TECAR in Therapy

TECAR technology originated in Italy, and was originally developed for elite sports medicine. Since then it’s spread quickly across Europe and is popular within both elite sport, and injury clinics, due to gaining attention for its ability to reduce pain and cut rehabilitation time for musculoskeletal injury by up to 50%.

Its non-invasive yet powerful results have quickly gained traction, and today TECAR is used in top-level sports performance centres, orthopaedic rehabilitation clinics, and manual therapy practices worldwide.

How Does it Work?

TECAR works by generating high-frequency radio waves (typically 300–500 kHz) and applying them to the body through capacitive or resistive electrodes.

There are two main modes of action:

The energy creates an oscillating electrical field in the tissues, producing a gentle thermal effect that:

Why is it Gaining Popularity?

As clients demand faster results, less pain, and more personalised care, TECAR therapy ticks all the boxes for both therapists and patients, due to:

Immediate pain relief after just one session

Non-invasive and comfortable

Compliments manual therapy, dry needling, and rehabilitation exercise and comfortable

Reduces therapist fatigue by enhancing hands-on results

Faster healing times for both soft tissue and joint injuries / conditions

Safe and suitable for acute and chronic injuries

Clinical Applications

TECAR is versatile and effective in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions, including (but not limited to):
It’s also excellent for post-exercise recovery, making it popular with athletes who would like to speed up muscle repair and reduce soreness.

TECAR in Practice - How Can it be Used?

TECAR can be used as a standalone modality or combined seamlessly with:
